Rear Brake Dimensions & Service Information
Yamaha YBR125 service data specifies a 130 mm rear brake drum. Later YBR125 service information gives a new brake-shoe lining thickness of approximately 4.5 mm with a 2.0 mm wear limit. These values are useful service references for the motorcycle, not a guarantee of the exact measured lining thickness of this unbranded set.
What Brake Shoes Do
When the rear brake pedal is pressed, the brake cam forces the two shoes outward so the friction linings contact the inside of the brake drum. The return springs pull the shoes back when the pedal is released. Worn, contaminated, cracked or glazed shoes can reduce braking performance and should be replaced as a pair.
Important Fitment Checks
- Confirm the bike uses a 130 x 28 mm / Y535-pattern rear shoe before ordering.
- Compare the shoe arc, pivot end, brake-cam contact end and spring-hole positions with the original shoes.
- Check the rear drum is clean and within its service limit before fitting new shoes.
- Do not allow oil, grease or brake cleaner residue to contaminate the friction lining.
- Replace both shoes together and fit the return springs securely in the correct holes.
- After assembly, adjust rear-brake pedal free play and confirm the brake-light switch operates correctly.
Brake Safety
Motorcycle brakes are safety-critical. After fitting, rotate the rear wheel by hand, confirm the brake releases fully, check pedal free play, and test braking at low speed before normal road use. If you are not experienced with drum-brake servicing, professional installation is recommended.
