Important Compatibility Check

Starter motors can look very similar while using different mounting centres, drive gears or electrical terminals. Before ordering, compare the original starter with the photographs and check the 9-tooth pinion, mounting-lug positions, electrical terminal, overall body shape and OE/cross-reference number.

For Chinese-built motorcycles, check the stamped engine code as well as the model name. This listing is for the YBR-pattern starter used on the compatible 154FMI / 156FMI-5 family and specifically cross-referenced applications shown below.

Replacement Advice

A starter motor that turns slowly or fails to operate can also be caused by a weak battery, poor earth, corroded terminals, damaged wiring, a faulty starter relay/solenoid, starter-clutch problems or mechanical engine resistance. Check the starting circuit before replacing the motor.

Installation Notes

Disconnect the battery before installation. Clean the mounting and electrical-contact areas, lightly lubricate the sealing O-ring where appropriate, ensure the starter seats squarely in the crankcase and tighten fasteners to the motorcycle manufacturer's specification. Route and secure the electrical connection away from hot or moving parts.
