What the Brake Rod Does
The rear brake rod transfers movement from the right-foot brake pedal to the rear drum-brake cam lever. The threaded rear section accepts the brake-adjusting nut so pedal free play can be set correctly.
Important: Brake Rod vs Brake Torque Rod
This listing is for the brake operating rod that links the pedal to the rear brake cam lever. It is not the separate brake torque / reaction rod that secures the brake-shoe plate to the swingarm.
Symptoms of a Damaged or Worn Brake Rod
- Bent, corroded or damaged linkage rod
- Damaged or stripped adjustment thread
- Rear brake adjustment cannot be set correctly
- Excessive pedal free play caused by damaged linkage components
- Missing or damaged rod after rear-wheel or brake servicing
Fitment Checks Before Ordering
- Compare the old rod with the listing photographs and the 5VL-F7231-01 / 5VL-F7231-00 reference family.
- Check approximate overall length and the M6 x 1.0 threaded adjustment end.
- Confirm the motorcycle has the mechanical rear drum-brake linkage shown in Yamaha parts diagrams.
- Check the pedal-end connection, rear pin / spring / washer arrangement and adjusting nut against your original setup.
- Previous owners may have swapped wheels, brake plates, pedals or linkage parts, so model name alone should not be the only fitment check.
Installation & Brake Adjustment
After fitting, adjust rear-brake pedal free play to the motorcycle manufacturer's specification and check the rear brake operates smoothly without binding. Yamaha YBR125 service information commonly specifies approximately 20-30 mm brake-pedal free play on applicable models. Check the brake-light operation after adjustment.
The braking system is safety-critical. If you are unsure about installation or adjustment, have the work carried out by a competent motorcycle technician.
Package Contents
1 x rear brake rod. Adjusting nut, compression spring, washer, clevis pin / cotter pin and other hardware are not claimed as included unless they are clearly shown with your stock in the listing photographs.
Documented Fitment
- Yamaha YB125SPD / YBR125 - model code 27S1 - 2008
- Yamaha OEM stand / footrest diagram specifies 5VL-F7231-01
- Rear drum-brake operating linkage
Fitment note: This is a strong cross-fit because the complete Yamaha parts diagram identifies the same brake-rod reference, not merely a visually similar linkage.
