Honda Comparison Reference

A common Honda reference associated with later C50/C70/C90 choke-cable applications is 17950-GB4-770. This number is supplied for identification and search comparison only. The item offered here is aftermarket / unbranded and is not represented as a Genuine Honda component.

Important Cub Fitment Warning

Do not order by “C50 / C70 / C90” or year alone. Honda used more than one choke-cable pattern across Cub production.

  • Early C50ZZ / C70ZZ / C90ZZ applications commonly use the different 17950-086-721 cable family.
  • Some later-market Super Cub / Custom versions use different Honda references such as 17950-GT0-000.
  • Before ordering, compare the cable length, outer-cable length, end fittings, ferrules, adjuster / mounting arrangement and routing with your original cable.

What the Choke Cable Does

On a carburetted Honda Cub with a remotely operated choke, the cable transfers movement from the choke lever/control to the carburettor starting-enrichment mechanism. Correct operation helps enrich the mixture for cold starting and then allows the choke to return fully once the engine is warm.

Common Reasons for Replacement

  • Choke lever is stiff or difficult to move
  • Inner cable is frayed, rusty or partially seized
  • Outer sheath is cracked, kinked or damaged
  • Choke does not return fully
  • Cable has stretched or the end fitting has been damaged
  • Restoration of an older Honda Cub with missing / incorrect controls

Installation Guidance

  • Route the cable in the same path as the original, avoiding sharp bends and hot exhaust / engine surfaces.
  • Make sure the inner cable moves smoothly before connecting it to the carburettor.
  • Turn the handlebars fully left and right and confirm steering movement does not pull or bind the choke cable.
  • Check that the carburettor choke / starter mechanism reaches both its fully-on and fully-off positions.
  • After installation, confirm the engine starts correctly from cold and the choke fully releases when switched off.

Package Contents

1 x choke cable. Choke lever, carburettor, cable stopper, mounting bracket and other control hardware are not included unless clearly shown in the listing photographs.

Fitment

  • Honda C50 Cub - selected 1982-2002 applications
  • Honda C70 Cub - selected 1982-1986 applications
  • Honda C90 Cub - selected 1983-2003 applications
  • Common later-Cub comparison reference: 17950-GB4-770

Fitment note: The year ranges are aftermarket application ranges, not a claim that every Cub variant in those years uses the same cable. Early ZZ versions and some later Custom-market Cubs use different cable patterns, so compare the original cable before purchase.
